Winners are Announced
The winners of the eat out awards are here! They were revealed in the Burton Mail this morning and are also available on this site. The eight category winners (including two double-winners) represent the very best places to eat out in the Burton upon Trent area, and their achievements are remarkable in such a close-run competition.
Anoki took the ultimate accolade, Restaurant of the Year, as well as scooping the prize for Best Indian Restaurant. Their manager, Jitendra Sahu, described winning the award as “an out of this world feeling” and praised his team, saying; “It’s all down to the hard work of our staff – they have the passion and the zeal to create something different for the customer each time.”
The Burnt Gate at Anslow also picked up two awards, taking Best Customer Service while their chef, Zara Jackson, triumphed in the cook-off to become Young Chef of the Year.
In fact, the villages were well represented, showing us all that great dining can be found wherever you are in the Burton area. Hopefully, many more diners will be encouraged to explore new places to eat out as a result. Paul Keeton, eat out awards organiser, says; “These awards are all about celebrating local excellence, and that includes the great variety of restaurants that we have here in Burton. I know that already, some restaurants have gained new custom simply as a result of being involved in the eat out awards, and I hope that more people will get out there and try somewhere new – if they do that, then we’ve achieved our aim.”
Amongst the other winners, parents chose The Mill House in Stretton as their favourite place to eat out with the family, while those looking to dine out on a budget favoured Walton on Trent’s White Swan Inn.
Congratulations go to all the winners, as well as to all those who made it onto the shortlist.

Gala Awards Evening a Sellout Success
The eat out Gala Awards Evening took place on Monday night at Burton’s Pirelli Stadium. Over 250 diners packed out the venue for the event, for which tickets were completely sold out.
The evening proved to be a great success thanks to everyone involved, including sponsors, restaurants and local food enthusiasts, who all came together to find out the winners of the eat out awards 2010.
The evening’s menu was as sumptuous as expected. Following a reception with drinks and canapés, guests settled down to a five course, beer-themed dinner in recognition of Burton’s brewing heritage. Each dish was accompanied by a different beer, carefully selected to enhance its flavours. Diners also enjoyed such unusual delights as Kasteel Cru sorbet; surely a first for everyone present.
Local newspaper the Burton Mail was in attendance at the awards; their exclusive coverage of the event can be found in today’s Burton Mail.
