Young Chef of the Year 2010


Nominations for Young Chef of the Year 2010 are now open.


Eligibility
To be eligible for this award you must:

  • Be between 16 and 21 years of age on 1st January 2010.
  • ave worked for a minimum of 3 months at the restaurant which has nominated you.
  • Be available for a cook-off at Burton College on Monday 25th January (pm).
  • Be available for the Gala Awards Evening on Monday 8th February.

How to Apply
To apply, please print out and complete the application form, then post it to us at: Young Chef of the Year, Eat Out Awards, 5c Anson Court, Horninglow Street, Burton, DE14 1NG.

Make sure that all parts of the application form are completed, including:

  • A description of the signature dish you will serve if you are selected to take part in the cook-off final.
  • A brief supporting statement from the Head Chef or Proprietor of your restaurant, explaining why they have nominated you.

Deadline
Applications should be sent by post only and must be received by 24th December 2009

Cook-off Final at Burton College
The Head Chef of Burton College Catering department will evaluate all entries based on the signature dish and supporting statement from their restaurant.

The top five finalists will then be invited to the cook-off which will take place at Burton College on Monday 25th January 2010. The finalists will cook their signature dish, using their choice from the ingredients below, before serving it to a panel of judges from Burton College, Coors and the Burton Mail.

Ingredients for signature dish: fillet of salmon or breast of chicken / potatoes / carrots / leeks / celery / button mushrooms / onions / tomatoes / eggs / fennel / black olives / garlic / parsley / chives / thyme / ginger / bay leaf / soy sauce / chilli / fish stock / chicken stock / plain flour / butter / olive oil / cream

Winner
The winner of Young Chef of the Year will be announced at the eat out Gala Awards Evening on Monday 8th February 2010 at the Pirelli Stadium.
